Hans Witt is best known as a portrait and landscape painter. In 1931 he was admitted to the Künstlerhaus as a member of the so-called "Neue Gruppe" and in 1938, since his wife was Jewish, was removed from the Reichskunstkammer as a non-member of the Reichskunstkammer. In 1939 he was resigned as a member and two years after his emigration to the United States. More detailed biographical details about this time are not known. At the end of the war, the artist lost his entire property by bombing in Waizendorf in the district of Hollabrunn. As a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus he was re-led after the war ended in 1945, followed in 1959 by an exhibition there.
