The Viennese painter Oswald Grill studied painting with Karl Karger at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and continued his studies in Munich with Carl von Marr and Alexander von Wagner at the Art Academy. From 1906 on he worked as a freelance artist in Dachau before settling back in Vienna shortly afterwards. There he became a member of the Wiener Künstlerhaus in 1908 and served from 1917 to 1938 as Vice President and President of the Central Association of Austrian Artists. In 1929 he was appointed professor. In his work, landscape paintings and portraits in a naturalistic conception and a bright and clear mood of nature predominate. His works have been exhibited in the Munich Glass Palace and the Vienna Künstlerhaus, among others. Oswald Grill has received numerous honors, including the Golden Medal of Honor of the Republic of Austria, the Small Golden State Medal and the Golden Laurel of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.
