Eduard Kasparides, of Moravian origins, came to Vienna in 1876 to study, where he attended the academy under Christian Griepenkerl and Josef Mathias von Trenkwald until 1884. The following year he went to Munich, but returned to Vienna in 1886. Later, various study trips took him to Italy, Germany, Sweden and Russia. At the beginning of his career, Kasparides preferred genre and historical paintings with religious content, but from 1899 he found his impressionistic evening landscapes with a high atmospheric content. In 1894 he became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus and in 1900 a founding member of the Hagenbund, where he exhibited his works until 1904. The artist became known above all for his atmospheric sunsets, which he painted in mostly dark tones. Kasparides was honored and awarded several times: in 1899 he received the Baron Königswarter Artist Prize, the Mention Honorable at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris and the Small Golden State Medal in Vienna.
